Simping Island in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province
Not all tourists are aware of the presence of a small island in Singkawang City. The name is Simping Island and it belongs to Singkawang Selatan Sub-District. Also, it resides in Sedau Village and located across Teluk Mak Jantu Beach. In the past, the locals called it Kelapa Dua Island and it is considered the smallest island in the world! Even the United Nations has approved it! Due to the fact, many outsiders are interested in visiting the island and witness the uniqueness up close. This explains why it has been included in the list of the most recommended vacation destinations in Singkawang.
In terms of size, Simping is indeed small. It has the total width of about 0.5 hectares. The good thing is the locals have built a bridge to get to the island easily. There is also a sign installed before the bridge. What about the nuance? Well, it offers a beautiful sea panorama and it is surrounded by coral reefs. Some trees grow on the island as well, so the atmosphere is comfortable enough to explore. When it comes to the water, the waves look calm so tourists can swim in it.

It is said the island had some inhabitants back then. However, those people left the island due to a terrible sea abrasion. No wonder, it has become an uninhabited island since such incident. Despite the fact, many people are interested in visiting the location due to the serenity and beautiful sea panorama!
It is true visitors need to walk to get to Simping Island. Have no worries. A comfy bridge is available that they can use to cross the sea. In fact, they can simply stand on the bridge and feel the sea nuance comfortably! The soothing wind may accompany them while crossing, as well. Once arriving at the island, they may see several old trees and lots of rocks right away. Also, in the west part of the island, a small monastery resides. On some occasions, the local Chinese come to the site for worshipping! Tourists would be lucky if they meet them, for sure.
In the south part of Simping Island, tourists may see more coral reefs scattered by the shore. Somehow, that spot is the best to enjoy photography and sightseeing. Therefore, no one should forget to carry a camera when visiting the island later.

How to Get There
In order to get to Simping Island, tourists should reach Teluk Mak Jantu Beach at Sedau Village first. Their prime destination is definitely South Singkawang Sub-District. Once arriving at the beach, they can use the available bridge to get to the island. For the information, the whole trip may take about 2 hours and 55 minutes if they come from Pontianak City. It is because the distance is 145 km.
